This jacket has become my jacket of choice for insulation. Once I started getting into light weight back packing I looked for a jacket that was lightweight but didn’t compromise on performance. It uses a PrimaLoft© synthetic with a Pertex Quantum© and offers a great warmth – to – weight ratio. The hood can go over or under a helmet too. I have not been disappointed with this jacket and as it has a slim fit you can get an outer shell over the top.
I have had this jacket for over ten years, but still serves a purpose. It is not water proof so in bad conditions it is not ideal, the new hydro down has filled that gap nicely. It doesn’t have a hood which can be a negative so I may often use a neck gator with a beanie hat with it. It has two pockets at the side and one on the left front. Only handy for small items. The shoulders are made from a stronger wearing material which is good for rucksack straps. I use this mainly in camp during the evening now.
This Bergaus down gillet is 650 fill the same as the previous jacket with the same features. It does pack small in a dry bag so I often put it to the bottom of a rucksack during certain days on the fells. If you are stopping to eat or in an emergency it keeps the core warm.
